Top reasons to make Bhutan the happiest country in the world
Bhutan is an iconic destination, and why not, it is one of the happiest countries in the world according to the United Nations Happiness Report. Well you already knew that, didn't you? But, do you know why Bhutan is counted among the happiest places in the world?
A plethora of festivals
With two-thirds of the country's population being Buddhist, Bhutan's annual calendar is filled with many festivals that are largely Tshechu. The annual Bhutanese festival, Tshechus, are religious events of the Drukpa dynasty of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, and are held on the tenth day of a month of the lunar Tibetan calendar in each Dzongkhag (district) of Bhutan. However, the month depends on the place, which means that every month in Bhutan there is a Tshechu festival in one part or the other.
Apart from Tshechus, there are other festivals of Bhutan that celebrate victory and the food of the country; local deities; Rich culture of native tribes. So, apparently, there's no reason why a country that gets the opportunity to gather and enjoy for the most part of the year wouldn't be the happiest country in the world! Here's more on festivals in Bhutan.
Good Food
As a non-native, we cannot even imagine a weekday, especially in a capital city, without congested streets. Bhutan is particular about its traffic rules; Vehicles also stop at zebra crossings to allow pedestrians to cross, and that's just one thing. There are zero street signals in Bhutan, Nada! Instead, there is the traffic police that directs the traffic. People themselves work so responsibly that even in the busiest hours you will not find traffic anywhere in the country. I mean, if that's not the reason why Bhutan is a happy country then what is?
